Tolan Welcomes progress on Spine Road in Laytown-Bettystown

Local Fine Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan has today welcomed news that consultants have now been appointed to progress the R150 Laytown to Bettystown Spine Road scheme. “MCC held a competitive tender process for a consultant to carry out the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO), detailed design, tender and construction phases. The successful and unsuccessful candidates have now been notified, and I can confirm that Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates Ltd. was appointed on 26/7/2017 to bring the R150 Laytown to Bettystown Spine Road scheme through the different phases of the project outlined. This contract is officially underway and the council’s Transportation Section will have a start up meeting with the consultant early next month.” said Tolan
“The council have confirmed to me that the anticipated timelines have assumed a 10 month period to take the project through the CPO statutory process to the end of the oral hearing. Thereafter the decision to grant the CPO or otherwise will be in the hands of An Bord Pleanala. Beyond that then we anticipate a 7 month period to prepare contract documents and complete the tender process and a 9 month construction period. I will continue to push this project to completion as quickly as possible. If these timelines can be improved upon, I will do all I can to ensure they are. The progress of the Spine Road has been a priority for me since I was first elected and I was delighted to have been able to secure the Part 8 planning for the scheme and secure it’s inclusion in the government’s Capital Plan. We have an educational campus with almost 2000 students aged from 4 to 18 years old, and this road is absolutely crucial to relieve the massive pressure currently experienced on the Coast Road.”

My week in Politics

What a week that was! From Irish Water to meeting with Ministers, Councillors and Residents meetings, Slane Bypass, LCDC,  Community Grants and finishing off with promoting this year’s Dip in the Nip…….it was water, water, water and everything else squeezed in between.

Tolan Welcomes Ministers to East Meath Utd FC
Local Fine Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan, recently welcomed Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government, Simon Coveney and Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, Damien English, to her local football club, East Meath Utd FC. Tolan, who is a Director of the successful and ambitious soccer club in East Meath, took the opportunity of the visit, to showcase all the club has achieved over the past number of years.
Minister Simon Coveney was in the area canvassing local Fine Gael Councillors ahead of the expected leadership contest, along with Minister Damien English.
“I like to take every opportunity I get to show any visiting TD’s or Ministers, how well spent Sports Capital Funding is in the area, and to outline the importance of this funding for clubs to succeed and provide much needed facilities in East Meath. I also took the opportunity to outline to the Minister, who quite possibly will be our future leader, my own ambitions politically. I’m looking forward to meeting any other candidates and hearing their plans for the country and the Fine Gael party.” said Tolan.
